Follow up Study on Stroke Victims

Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the follow-up care activity of patients with a diagnosis of cerebrovascular accident after discharge. It was hoped that this information would contribute to the assessment of their needs for follow-up nursing care.
A history of 31 stroke victims who were discharged from B. N. U. H. during January to December, 1976 was obtained.
Interviews of patient and his family revealed that 18 victims were dead, 13 victims remined alived.
The results of the study about dead victims were as follows.
1. 16 victimse out of 18 had very poor physical conditions, 2 had poor conditions at discharge.
2. 14 victims died within 3 days after discharge, 4 after 4 days.
3. 11 victims had home care, 3 hospital care, 4 herb medicine and acu-puncture from discharge to death.
The results of the study about survivals were as follows.
1. 5 victims had good physical conditions, 3 fair, 5 poor, at interview.
2. The hospitalization period was less than three days for 6 victims and more than 4 days for 7 victims.
There was no relation between hospitalization periods and physical conditions.
3. 6 victims had home care, 2 hospital care, 5 herb meicine and acu-puncture after discharge.
4. Home economic levels related with the ¢¥ degree of physical conditions, 8 victims in upper class, 3 in middle class, 2 in lower class.
Low economics accounted for the highest relationship with poor physical conditions.
5. About family care for patients, 6 respondants showed ¢¥No Problem¢¥.¢¥ ¢¥4 No one to give care.¢¥ ¢¥3 Difficult to care.¢¥
6. The need for follow- up care center, 7 respondents indicated ¢¥Yes¢¥, 6 respondants indicated ¢¥No¢¥
